The Sound of Ink
Materials: Bowl, Sensor, Ink, Speaker
Year: 2024
This multisensory interactive installation combines visual and auditory art to explore the deep connection between ink painting and sound. By touching different areas of ink, the work generates varying frequencies, giving ink a new form of expression through sound. The audience can experience the subtle changes in the ink’s intensity and the flow of its essence through auditory perception.
Traditionally, ink painting is a visual art, but this installation uses technological means to translate the ink’s varying tones and the shifting of its atmosphere into sound frequencies and rhythms, creating a "sonic ink." Light ink, dark ink, and heavy ink are assigned distinct sound frequencies and timbres, allowing the audience to perceive the rhythm and transformation of the ink’s movement through both tactile and auditory experiences. The layers of ink’s intensity correspond to the strength, pitch, and texture of sound, demonstrating the shared cultural expression between "visual" and "auditory" senses. Traditional art, when translated into different media, can be revitalized and, through innovation, reach deeper levels of human sensory and emotional engagement.
